Instruction Type: Private or Pods. Online.
Recommended for: Students entering grades 3-6.
The greatest challenge with word problems usually is not solving the calculations but rather interpreting the story. Students often have difficulty unpacking the actions in the story and identifying the equation or calculations that match the problem.
In this course, students will explore multi-step word problems involving all four operations. Course content can be customized to address fractions or, for students in grades 5-6, decimals and percentages. Students will be given multistep word problems to solve with strategies and tips for tackling the problem in approachable and effective ways.
Students will receive plenty of think-time and be held accountable for defending their strategies and explaining their thinking, which, in turn, gives them the necessary tools to unpack complex word problems and feel confident solving them in the future.
